SH 0515 Shameless

Whilst having a secret rendezvous, Debbie and Tom suddenly find themselves coming to the aid of an assaulted woman and things go horribly wrong when Tom gets arrested on suspicion of being the perpetrator of the attack. This serves as a faucet to expose all of the issues around such a relationship.

I find myself strangely drawn on this story. It is (very) wrong that an older man is going out with a 15 year old, I can clearly see that. It is not nice to watch and I find it uneasy to sit still. But I keep thinking that although 15 she is wiser than that and has been forced to bring up the family between the age of 12-15. She is also physically mature too; so can't quite work out what the right and wrong is here? There are people who are 16 who may not be as mentally mature as Debbie. You see this is the trouble with drawing a line; it assumes it is black and white when there is really a shade of grey over it.

There are also other gruesome events going on around Chatsworth. When Shane discovers Paddy offered Kelly money to leave him, he confronts his father who beats him to a pulp. His Dad has to apologise in the end because even though Mimi isn't saying so, Paddy can see that it is hurting her greatly to have such a divided family. The final family dinner is comic; never before have I heard spunk mentioned in such a manner whilst dining...
