DH 0416/0417 Desperate Housewives; The Gun Song/Free [Finale]

What a very dissapointing finale. It had no urgency, no speed until the last ten minutes. To be blunt the whole episode sounded like it was going through the motions...

Kayla & Lynette's mini arc ended nicely as did Susan's brief problem of letting Julie go. All convenient. And speaking of convenience; Gabrielle & Carlos were skint so took in a lodger who turned out to be a drug dealer and by the end of this episode they find hundreds of thousands of dollars. I'm sorry Mr. & Ms. Writers, if that is the best that you can come up with then you don't deserve the settlement from your strike! It's insulting to the audience.

Bob and Lee's wedding is organised by Bree who is still reeling (without realising) from her seperation from Orson and there are a few comic moments however the main plot point for this is for Bree to go and discover Katherine and Wayne and to discover Katherine's terrible secret which makes the show live up to its name - Desperate. The convenience issue was immense on this secret - oh I know what I'll do, I'll just pop off to a Romanian orphanage.

I was thinking that it would be interesting how Susan would cope without Julie as Hatcher's character is so dependent on her teenage daughter for support... But then the ending! Five years ahead? Interesting. No more Mike & Susan? Bree & Orson again. Juvenile delinquents? Katherine still round the table. Gabrielle has let herself go. I'm not sure how it'll pan out but it was interesting.

All in all, the show didn't seem to hit its creative stride it was in pre-strike leaving you feeling like the fourth season was one of two halves. Before the strike, the show was churning out some of the best material in its history - ever. After the strike DH became inconsistant in quality and the finale was simply insulting.
